Skye commenced Dancesport at the age of eight and since then
has continued strive to improve her
dance technique, choreography, fitness and presentation
which has taken her to a high level of achievement in the
Amateur ranks of Dancesport competition nationally and internationally.
Her efforts during her youth status were recognized after
becoming a recipient of the ‘Big Brother Scholarship’
which took her and her partner to the United Kingdom
to train with internationally renowned dance coaches
and then compete in the prestigious ‘British Open’,
competing in both ballroom (standard) and Latin American styles.
Skye became Australia’s top ten dance representative at the age of 17.
Whilst under the guidance of British and World Champion,
Paul Green, Skye was a quarter finalist, with a ranking of 13th,
at the British Youth Latin American Championships,
in two consecutive years as well as a finalist at The Australian Open.
She has won the Singapore Open Latin American,
Russian Far East Championships and featured in all major finals in Australia.
Skye has since gone on to specialize in Latin American
with her talented dance partner:
During the 2008 Asian dance tour Skye and Jarryd
achieved a consistent top 3 placing in all 7 finals.
Having recently moved back from Melbourne after two years,
they are currently pursuing their international ambitions.
Skye has worked with renowned Australian choreographers;
Jason Gilkison and David Atkins as a
featured Latin American dancer in the Dancesport Segment of
the Closing Ceremony of the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games.
She has also choreographed and managed a small dance group
“Latin Fantasy” which performed at sporting and corporate events.
An integral part of Skye’s life has been her acknowledgment of
those less fortunate and by balancing her professional career
with dance commitments she has been able to consistently
give her time to choreograph and dance at charitable events.
In 2007 Skye partnered Jason Akermanis in a charity fundraising event
“Dancing with the Dogs” for the St Vincent’s Institute and
Western Bulldog’s “Forever Foundation”.
Skye’s goal is to reach her full potential as a dancer by
relocating overseas in pursuit of further international competition experience but
ultimately wants to contribute back to the
Australian Dancesport industry that have given them so many opportunities.
